Just like last year, Apple has set its much-anticipated fall line-up launch for Sept. 9.]
Apple inviteThe company sent invitations to the media Thursday for the much-anticipated press event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.
Apple, as usual, is keeping everyone guessing on what will be unveiled at the Sept. 9 event, although it is widely believed the Cupertino company will debut a new line of iPhones as well as the next version of its Apple TV set-top box. It is thought Apple will present an update for its virtual assistant Siri at the event as well.
“Hey Siri, give us a hint,” reads the invitation from Apple, which also indicates the launch is “an invitation only event.”
The only other details on the document include the date, time and location.
If Apple is following a model similar to last year’s event, it will not debut a new iPad line up Sept. 9. Rather, the company will likely host a separate event for that launch.
Despite rumors to the contrary earlier this summer, Apple will not debut its Internet TV service at the event. Instead, it has been pushed back until 2016.
Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with Apple’s plans, reported the launch for the new service had to be pushed back because the iPhone maker is still in negotiations with broadcasters including Twenty-First Century Fox and CBS. Much like Dish’s Sling TV, which bundles channels together at a reasonable price, Apple’s service would also offer program bundles that would then be sold directly to online consumers. The service itself would not be unique, but it would come complete with Apple’s interface and user experience.\

iPhone is back to being the world’s top selling smartphone
Smartphones are taking over the cellphone market. As of January 2014, 58 percent of American adults had a smartphone, according to a report from the Pew Research Internet Project.
For the first time in three years, the iPhone is the world’s top selling smartphone.
According to a report by CNN, Apple sold a record 74.8 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 2014, giving it 20.4% of the global smartphone market, according to new research from Gartner.
That was enough to push Apple (AAPL, Tech30) ahead of Samsung (SSNLF), which had 19.9% of the market in the quarter.
The last time Apple held the top spot was in the fourth quarter of 2011.
The blockbuster sales of iphones also pushed overall smartphone sales over 1 billion for the first time ever. In 2014, there were 1.2 billion smartphones sold worldwide, up 28% from 2013.
Overall, smartphones accounted for two thirds of all mobile phone sales last year.
Apple’s breakthrough came on the heels of a deal with China’s biggest mobile provider, China Mobile (CHL). That deal benefited Apple in a big way, with sales in China surging 70% last quarter.
Making such gigantic inroads in China was once believed impossible. Apple’s brand did not hold the same cache as some Chinese smartphone makers, including Xiaomi, Lenovo (LNVGF) and Huawei. And those brands heavily discount their phones, making them far more accessible to the masses than the iPhone.
Apple also rolled out the new iPhone 6 to other countries faster than it had in previous years which helped boost sales. The iPhone 6 is available in 130 countries. Apple also said its supplier efficiencies helped the company manufacture 7 million more iPhones than it had expected to make last quarter.
But the iPhone’s expected success isn’t solely due to China, the global market or supply chains.
The iPhone 6 has proven extremely popular with customers who were holding out for a bigger Apple smartphone. The 4.7-inch screen competes much better with some larger Android smartphones, and the superior camera has helped some would-be defectors stick with the iPhone brand.
New york post edittor also report that , Despite losing ground in the fourth quarter, Samsung still held the biggest share of the mobile market for all of 2014, selling 392 million units. That was more than double the 191 million iPhones sold by Apple.
Total smartphone sales surged 28 percent to 1.2 billion units in 2014, representing two-thirds of sales.
